You no longer need to travel to London for a taste of the high life. Opening it’s doors last December The Ivy’s fancy new York restaurant is everything you might expect from a company that is famous for attracting celebrities and stars. Relaxed yet sophisticated all-day dining open seven days a week. The Ivy St. Helen’s Square is located on the eponymous square in the heart of York and serves an all-encompassing, contemporary British menus for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner.

The Star Inn the City

Set in an old brick engine house, in a delightful riverside spot beside the Museum Gardens the restaurant strikes exactly the right balance between luxurious and cosy. Owner Andrew Pern is one of Yorkshire’s most revered chefs. The Star at Harome, near Helmsley, won him a Michelin star in 2001, which he held onto for ten years, and is frequently touted as the North’s finest restaurant. Modern gutsy dishes showcase top Yorkshire produce.

The Park Restaurant

The Park

The Park Restaurant delivers a special occasion for each of its diners by creating seasonal tasting menus for a limited few utilising fresh local produce from the surrounding area. 2-3 hours are recommended for the experience, but the food is, of course, served at your pace, not theirs.

Carluccio’s brings you fresh, modern, Italian cuisine and the very best of celebrity chef Antonio Carluccio’s homeland to the city. The all-day menu takes you from breakfast, through to drinks and dinner. Signature dishes celebrate modern twists on Italian classics. All set in a beautiful historic building on the site of what was the city’s iconic Terry’s Chocolate Shop.

Coming to York – Shakespeare’s Pop-Up Rose Theatre

We are delighted to announce that Europe’s first ever pop-up Shakespearean theatre will be built in York’s historic city centre in 2018. Four Shakespeare plays directed by Lindsay Posner and Damian Cruden will be performed over a 10 week period.

Based on the original designs of the Elizabethan Rose Theatre built in London in 1587, the 13-sided temporary theatre will house an audience of almost a thousand people, with three tiered balconies and an open-air stage. The theatre, which will be the first of its kind in Europe, will stand in a mock Tudor fairground, with themed food and entertainment including free performances from the back of carts.

Damian Cruden, artistic director of the Theatre Royal in York for the last two decades, will direct A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth. Lindsay Posner, a multi-award-winning director who has worked extensively in the West End and with the RSC, and whose Death and the Maiden at the Royal Court won two Olivier awards, will direct Richard III and the opening production of Romeo and Juliet.

The season will begin on Monday, June 25, and run until Sunday, September 2, 2018. Ticket prices at Shakespeare’s Rose will range from groundlings standing at £12.50 to seats at £59.95. Booking is now open.
